Finding My Way Back

A Road Paused, Not Forgotten

Rebuilding my business has been on my mind for a while, but it isn”t about starting over -  it’s about returning to a road I once traveled.  These past few years that I’ve spent mothering have reshaped the way I see myself as an artist, and now I feel ready to reconnect with my work in a way that feels authentic and purposeful.

The first two years of motherhood were all-consuming, and my studio practice seemed to fade into the background.  I sketched occasionally, tinkered with ideas, but it wasn’t until my son, Miles, was about two and a half that I returned to my studio (briefly), creating work for a show at Craft Contemporary in Los Angeles.  During the 5 years I put my business on pause, I participated in two shows and attended a metalsmithing class at Long Beach City College to explore new techniques.  Even while my studio sat quiet, I kept a connection to my art, knowing I would eventually return.

Gathering Inspiration Along the Way

Watching Miles grow is like seeing time unfold before me.  Children are living clocks, reminding us how quickly moments pass. His curiosity, joy, and small discoveries have taught me patience, observation, and how to notice the beauty in everyday life - lessons that naturally seeped into my creative vision.

Nature became my constant companion during this time.  Miles and I spent hours walking trails, photographing flowers, and collecting leaves and twigs - little treasure that inspired the both of us. Watching him begin to forage alongside me was, and still is, a joy.  Our quiet moments in nature together have nurtured my creativity, providing the foundation of work I hope to create.

Now I am ready to return to my practice in a thoughtful way.  I’ve redesign my website, am exploring ways to translate my inspirations into collections, and feeling the urge to sit at my beach again.  This time, I’m letting go of some control, a lesson learned in both motherhood and life, and trusting that the journey itself will guide me forward.
