Inspired by Flaws

ARTIST STATEMENT

My name is Charmaine Vegas, and I am the metalsmith behind Bless the Theory, a small studio based in Long Beach, California.

I create jewelry and small metal objects that explore the beauty of imperfection and the complexity of the human experience. My work is inspired by the natural world and the quiet patterns we find within it—roots, veins, fractures, and paths that form over time.

Working primarily in sterling silver with touches of gold, I often incorporate pearls and gemstones for the subtle symbolism they bring to each piece.

A recurring element in my work is an intuitively hand-sawn or engraved fissure. These lines reflect my fascination with the places where things split, shift, or change direction. To me, these marks are reminders that what appears broken can also be expressive, resilient, and deeply alive.

Each piece is made slowly by hand in my Long Beach studio.

RECENT WORK

In my recent and continually evolving body of work, I explore the idea of letting go—what it means, how it unfolds, and the quiet transformation it can bring. Inspired by the seasonal rhythms of nature and the inner shifts we experience as humans, I use the oak leaf as a symbol of physical shedding. Sawn or engraved veins trace a path of change and transformation, while pearls become a quiet metaphor for what can emerge through release—regrowth, clarity, and a deeper understanding of self.
